After an introduction stressing the advantage of the dropping mercury electrode over any other small electrode attention is drawn to the development in the theoretical interpretation of current-voltage curves in the case of irreversible, kinetic and catalytic processes.
Some recent developments in polarography are then reviewed in an endeavour to show the widening field now covered by this technique. The different aspects dealt with are the following :
- polarography in organic chemistry,
- applications in biochemistry, medecine and pharmacy
- derivative polarography,
- the importance of adsorption at the mercury solution interphase.
