Abstract

Ionophores based on 3-oxapentane-1,5-diamide derivatives with water/1-n-octanol partition coefficients up to 1022 were synthesized. They have sufficient lipophilicity to be used in solvent polymeric membranes for optodes, ISFET’s, and ion-selective electrodes with a lifetime from 600 to 4∙106 hours even in permanent contact with whole blood or undiluted blood serum. Selectivities of Ca2⊕ over Mg2⊕, Na and K of 104.2,106 and 108, respectively, were obtained.
