Die UV-Bestrahlung von 3,19-Dioxo-17β-acetoxy-Δ4-androsten

3,19-Dioxo-17β-acetoxy-Δ4-androsten (3) exhibits ultraviolet absorption indicative of electronic interaction of the α,β-unsaturated ketone and the γ-aldehyde group. Irradiation of 3 in a 0,058 molar ethanol solution at room temperature with light of wavelength 253,7 nm caused decarbonylation to product 4 and isomerization to products 5 and 6, exclusively.
