Abstract

The acid-catalysed reactions of cryptoxanthin and isocryptoxanthin in 0,01 N HCl in chloroform are being investigated. In O2-free medium two major products have been isolated: dehydro-retro-carotene and a mono-dehydro-carotene. The reaction is found to be influenced by oxygen and unidentified oxydation products are formed.
