A Facile Synthesis of 4,4,-Dipyridylacetylene

Abstract

Trans 4,4'-dipyridylethylene is converted to its perbromide by bromination in 63% HBr. Subsequent dehydrobromination produces 4,4'dipyridylacetylene in high yield. Spectroscopic properties and pKa-values are given.
