[MoCl4(NSeCl)]2 has been prepared by the reaction of Se4N4 with molybdenum pentachloride in boiling dichloromethane, forming a black, diamagnetic, moisture-sensitive crystal powder, which is characterized by its IR spectrum. The reaction of [MoCl4(NSeCl)]2 with tetraphenylphosphonium chloride leads to the well-known nitrido complex Ph4P[MoCl4N].
