Abstract

A non-comprehensive list of materials and processes, currently considered of importance for renewable energy research and development, is given. In addition, the search for characteristic features, common to potentially important processes, is encouraged. Some speculative examples are given and their discussion shows that the existence of such common features is plausible and that they might be useful to screen candidate processes and materials.
