Fluoreszenzlöschung von Stilben

The quenching of the fluorescence of trans-stilbene in solution has been investigated. The quantum yield decreases strongly with increasing concentration of the solute (concentration quenching). On the other hand, the quenching effect of cis-stilbene and 1.1-diphenyl-ethylene is very small. These results lead to the suggestion that a dimerization in the first excited singlet state (cf.3) competes with the fluorescence emission.
