A survey discussing the development and the status of the technology of crosslinkable plastics is presented from a synthetic chemists point of view. Continuous or at least automatic procedures and processes are a necessary condition not only for thermoplastic resins, but also for thermosettings, if a product is to be commercially successful. Special attention is given to the physical properties of the monomers and to those properties which depend on the reaction type. The following processes are particularly discussed: trickle impregnation, powder coatings, filament winding and injection moulding. Construction details of some process machines and of apparatus that depend on the cure mechanism (crosslinking) of the endproduct formation are also presented.
