Abstract

The chromatographic separation of the product resulting from the reaction of sodium and tetraphenylethylene on 3,5-dichloromethyl-pyridine led to the isolation of [2.2.2](3,5)pyridinophane (yield 4,2%) and [2.2.2.2](3,5)pyridinophane (yield 1,5%). The structure of the new ring systems was confirmed by NMR and mass spectra analyses.
