Abstract

The synthesis of a cyclobutadiene stabilized by two dimethylamino- and two methoxycarbonyl-groups is reported, proceeding by reaction of two eq. of methyl 3-(dimethylamino)propiolate with one eq. of HBF4 to a cyclic cyanine salt, followed by elimination with KOC(CH3)3.
