Abstract

The kinetics of the dissociation of a binuclear chelate of triethylenetetramine-cobalt(II)-ion with O2 and OH- as bridging ligands have been studied. In contrast to similar systems the rate of dissociation in weakly acidic solution was found to be proportional to [H+]. This suggests a mechanism in which protonation of the OH- bridge precedes the first dissociation step.
