Reaktivität von Koordinationsverbindungen, XXI: Zur Reversibilität der Bindung von molekularem Sauerstoff an Kobalt(II)-Chelate

The dissociation of a binuclear cobalt(II)-chelate of triethylenetetramine (trien) with O2 and OH− as bridging ligands has been studied in different salt media. At pH 2 in the presence of Cl− the O2-adduct dissociates reversibly to Co2+, trien and O2. On the contrary, SO42− causes partial irreversible oxidation to CoIII(trien)3+. In the latter case formation of a highly reactive cobalt(III)peroxo intermediate has been proved. Ion pair formation must be accounted for the different behaviour in Cl− and SO42−-solutions.
