Abstract

A circular dichroism spectrum may be measured with an amount of 0.1 to 0.2 mg of flavone glycoside; from the λmax values and the intensity of the cotton effects valuable conclusions may be drawn concerning the linking position of sugar aglycon. The often occuring 3-O-flavone glycosides for instance show the most intense cotton effects of this class of compounds (at 250 nm); thus this band may be used best for their identification. If the rotation between sugar and aglycon is sterically less hindered than in the 3-O-flavone glycosides the intensity of the cotton effetcs is much smaller (e.g. compounds II and III).
