The use of an aliphatic solvent, such as hexane, in the condensation reaction between anethole and acetaldehyde allows the corresponding 1,3-dioxacyclohexane to be obtained quantitatively and selectively. This outstanding result can be assigned to the competitive diffusion of the reactants within the polymer network.
