Abstract

Phosphonoacetic acid has been found to generate chemical oscillations in the BrO3-/Ce4+/H2SO4 system.
The effect of changes in reagent concentrations and the temperature dependance of the system were studied, activation energies calculated. The influence of oxygen and mechanical stirring was investigated. Both factors influence the number of oscillations and length of induction period. Oxygen enhances the oscillatory phenomenon. No oscillations appear when |Cl-| = 10-4 M, whereas acrylonitrile causes only temporary inhibition of oscillations.
