Abstract

The chromatographic separation of the product resulting from the reaction of sodium and tetraphenylethylene on m-xylylene dibromide led to the isolation of [2.2.2.2.2]-meta- cyclophane (yield 5%) and [2.2.2.2.2.2] metacyclophane (yield 3.5%). The structure of the new ring systems was confirmed by NMR and mass spectra analyses.
