In a previous publication the decomposition of crystalline zinc hydroxides in the electron microscope has been described. While ZnO formed from these hydroxides in the electron beam keeps its texture until sublimation, the zinc oxide produced from zinc hydroxide nitrate 4Zn(OH)2 • Zn(NO3)2 • 2 H2O recrystallizes when further exposed to the electron beam. The texture of the primary decomposition product changes into a single crystal diffraction pattern and the broadening of the reflections disappears. The c-axis of the recrystallized zinc oxide lies parallel to the electron beam and the diffraction pattern shows reflections of the kind (ho • o) and (hk • o).
