Polyurethane als Grundlage für elastomere Fasern

Polyurethanes suitable for highly elastic threads consist of hard and soft segments linked by urethane bonds. The structural principle and the reactions leading to the synthesis of such polymers as well as the extrusion to threads are discussed. The specific property of these DMF-soluble polymers – of forming networklike, crystalline structures on elongation, without any actual covalent sites of crosslinking – is emphasized, and also the changes of the elastic properties achievable by variations in the soft and hard segments.
