Abstract

The γ-irradiation of solutions of bromobenzene in benzene gives rise to formation of biphenyl in a yield of 70% related to the diminution of bromobenzene. The postulated reaction scheme allows to calculate both the G-value of the diminution of bromobenzene and the concentration of biphenyl, as functions of the dose. In the presence of additives one is able to calculate two quantities: the relative quenching of the additive, compared to bromobenzene and the relative reactivity of the addition reaction of phenylradicals, compared to benzene.
