Self-diffusion coefficients of silver in silver chloride single crystals were measured with a radioactive tracer and from ionic conductivity by the Einstein relation.
A method of calculating the self-diffusion coefficient of a radioactive tracer is given and a very simple device for the measurement of ionic conductivity at room temperature is described.
In the presence of colloidal silver, the coefficient of diffusion is much smaller than in pure crystals. A mechanism is proposed.
