It is the objective of this paper to make the chemist working in the field of catalysis aware of catalysts on the basis of Molecularsieves. The specific features of the most interesting types, A, X, Y are described such as composition, crystalline structure, cation-exchange etc. It is shown how particular properties, e. g. polarity, acidity and hydrothermal stability can be built into the Molecularsieve-catalyst. The activity is closely related to the metalion by which the crystal has been exchanged and increases in the following order:
NaY < BaY < SrY < CaY ~ MgY ~ BeY
Molecularsieve-catalysts loaded with noble metals (Pt, Pd) have shown amazing results in the field of Sulphur-resistance.
A table gives an idea about the applications in the petroleum and petrochemical industry along with some suggestions what specific properties should be built into a catalyst e. g. metal co-catalyst, cation-exchange and type of crystal.
