Abstract

Cobalt(II)-amine complexes in aqueous solution form binuclear O2 adducts. The reaction is in a certain pH-range completely reversible. At low pH rapid irreversible oxidation takes place. Binding strength of O2 strongly depends on the ligands attached to cobalt(II). The structure of the O2-complexes formed with ethylenediamine, diethylenetriamine and triethylenetetramine are discussed.
