Abstract

The reactions of the tetrabromocompounds I and VIII with zinc and sodium are described. I and VIII with zinc dust in aqueous ethanol give the hydrocarbons II, and IX, X respectively; with sodium in absolute dioxane they yield the hydrocarbons II, III, IV, V, VI, and IX, XII, XIII, XIV respectively.
